Hawaii Five-NO!

I put this together as a “trailer” to the vacation video that I am working on from our Hawaii trip earlier this year. This is my first ever attempt at video editing.

Election Night Flickr

Photography is one of my passions, and Flickr.com is one of my favorite websites. One can spend hours getting lost in the photostreams there.
Here is a link to the photo stream of the official campaign photographer for Barack Obama. There are some fantastic shots there which seem to me to be not only very historic, but a rare glimpse into the more intimate details of the life of the president-elect and his family.

The photo posted above is particularly intriguing, as it appears to be a photo of Barack Obama watching John McCain’s stirring concession speech.

This brings back fond memories of my time working for a congressional candidate and creating a photo stream for her.

AP Investigation: Ike environmental toll apparent

By DINA CAPPIELLO, FRANK BASS and CAIN BURDEAU, Associated Press Writers 1 hour, 38 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Hurricane Ike’s winds and massive waves destroyed oil platforms, tossed storage tanks and punctured pipelines. The environmental damage only now is becoming apparent: At least a half million gallons of crude oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico and the marshes, bayous and bays of Louisiana and Texas, according to an analysis of federal data by The Associated Press.

In the days before and after the deadly storm, companies and residents reported at least 448 releases of oil, gasoline and dozens of other substances into the air and water and onto the ground in Louisiana and Texas. The hardest hit places were industrial centers near Houston and Port Arthur, Texas, as well as oil production facilities off Louisiana’s coast, according to the AP’s analysis.

A Home Run

Something made me think to record the season premiere of Saturday Night Live. This show used to be hysterical - a very long time ago. It has had its moments from time to time, and this is one of them.

On the Anniversary of 9/11/01…

September 11th, 2008

This is not posted for its humor or its biting poignancy. This is posted as a reminder that during the 2000 presidential campaign, George W. Bush damned Al Gore for not having brought the perpetrators of the 1998 embassy bombings in Nairobi and Tanzania to justice. 7 years after 9/11/01, George W. Bush and the hawks in his administration have failed to find the world’s most wanted man, who is also the world’s tallest Arab. Our country is rampant with hypocrisy, which usually takes the form of someone condemning another for something they themselves have done. George W. Bush condemned someone for something, and then later did the same thing, only under much more serious circumstances. Hypocrisy of this magnitude is, I think, unforgiveable.
